Monday, April 1, 2002

Therapists put Todd on a tilt table for about ½ hour where he was almost upright but his blood pressure dropped and they had to lie him back down. Todd was very tired from all of his weekend company and he fell asleep in one of his classes. When he awoke, the entire class had left and he was there by himself. It must have been a hoot for the rest of the class to leave quietly and leave him there! He had group physical therapy later in the day.

Tuesday, April 2, 2002

Todd is now Q24! Family training again today where Mom learned to maneuver a manual wheelchair over curbs and Mom positioned Todd in a minivan using a manual Hoyer lift and a sliding board to transfer him. Todd found out that he will be leaving the center on Friday and will enter the day program beginning Monday. He and Mom will be moving to a new apartment together down the street from the center. He will be picked up each morning and brought to therapy and then return home each evening.

Wednesday, April 3, 2002 Todd had physical therapy today. He finished his assisted technology class today. He learned to program a remote that will use up to 25 voice commands to control various electronic items in the house such as the TV, lights, stereo, etc. They practiced mobility training today by going shopping at a shopping center and then eating out at a sandwich shop.

Thursday, April 4, 2002

Todd went swimming today! He loved it. It was very easy to move in the water and he was able to move his arms freely. Swimming is both therapeutic and recreational. They tested his lung capacity by having him hold his breath underwater. He is able to hold it as long as he could before the accident.

Friday, April 5, 2002

Todd is leaving the Shepherd Center today and begins his day program on Monday. He and Mom used Jason's Mom's truck to move to their new apartment, just down the street. Memere Claire, Eileen, Marilyn and Uncle Mike arrived today at 1:00 and Todd was very excited to see them. It has been more than 6 weeks since he last saw them. Todd and mom spent most of the day wrapping up loose ends before leaving the center at 3:00. Uncle Mike helped move Todd using a manual hoyer lift. Todd took his power chair with him as well as an electric lift and a shower chair. The group had dinner at Longhorn's, which is still Todd's favorite place to eat.

Saturday, April 6, 2002

No therapy on the weekends anymore! The group had a late lunch at TGI Friday's. Mom, Memere, Eileen and Marilyn went to church up the street and Todd got some quality time with Uncle Mike. It was a very quiet day.

Sunday, April 7, 2002

The group had lunch at Longhorn's after saying goodbye to Uncle Mike who returned home today. Todd napped in his chair outside for awhile while the rest of the group visited with each other. It was another quiet day.

This week went very well !
